Day two in the Balkan Photo Festival: a workshop by Samo Vidic, a photo exhibition of Amel Emrić, Canon gear presentation

The day two of the Balkan Photo Festival will be held in the BiH Art Gallery and will start at 11AM with Canon gear presentation by our host Ferenc Torok. After a short break the program will continue from 11:30AM to 1PM with Samo Vidic, a Canon explorer who will present the “Munich Surfers” project.

Samo Vidic’s photography career started in 2001. He quickly discovered that he had passion for photographing sports. Samo always tries to find a different angle and to do things a little differently, which is why clients trust him even for their most demanding projects.

In the past 10 years he has worked with Red Bull and the Getty Images agency. He won the main prize at the Red Bull Illume photo contest in the “Wings” category, and is a multiple award-winner of the Slovenia press photo contest.

For several years he has been organizing a renowned workshop in Bohinj, Slovenia. Some of Samo’s regular clients include: Canon, Red Bull, Getty Images, Suunto, voest alpine, Elan, Atomic, IIHF, Salomon, Jarum, KTM, Jet Set. The workshop is sponsored by Canon who will also make their professional gear available for everyone to test following the official program, until 3PM.

A photo exhibition by Amel Emrić “Lost childhood” will open at 7PM.

Amel Emrić was born on 29 March, 1968 in Foča, Bosnia and Herzegovina. He started working as a photojournalist in 1988 and became a professional photographer for Sarajevo’s Večernje novine in 1990, as well as a contributor to all weekly and daily publications in the former Yugoslavia.

During the war in BiH he worked as a photo editor in a weekly publication published in Tuzla. In 1992 he started working as an Associated Press contributor from Tuzla. Following the formation of an AP bureau in Tuzla in 1996, he was hired as a permanent photojournalist, and from 2003 he worked as a photo editor at the Associated Press’ Sarajevo bureau.

So far he has held 6 solo photo exhibitions and his work was featured in two photography monographs: Tuzland and the Tuzla Canton monograph. His work was used to illustrate front pages of several books. He has been a member of ULUPUBIH (Association of Applied Artists and Designers of Bosnia and Herzegovina) Sarajevo since 2004. His awards and recognitions include USA National Headliner Awards 1997, 1998 World Press Photo, USA Picture of the Year 1998. His works were published in prestigious international magazines and daily publications, such as Time, Newsweek, Life, Paris Match, Der Spiegel, The New York Times, Washington Post, Herald Tribune, The Guardian, etc… He reported from crises in Kosovo, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia.

He was a member of the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA), Best of Photojournalism (BOP) contest 2011, USA, and the 2015 Balkan Photo Award.

This year’s Festival is supported by: the European Union Special Representative (EUSR), City of Sarajevo, UNICEF, Federal Ministry od Culture and Sports, BiH Art Gallery.
